Cobra XRS 9940 Radar Detectors

Though not the top of the 9000 model range of Cobra Radar Detectors, the 9940 does come with an impressive list of money and potentially life-saving features. Using the same ‘Superheterodyne Technology’ that increased the 8000 series detection range two-fold over the 7K’s, the 9940 boasts a detection range near the top of its class.

The 9940 works in a full 360 degrees, picking up K/Ka/Wideband Ka/X/Laser bands, even in POP mode. With one big eye to the future, the 9940 can even detect Ku Band guns currently in use only in Europe, but which are sure to make it to our Yankee shores in due time.

Unlike previous series of Cobras, its new high visibility, multi color display removes the guesswork and red-LED-induced trances of Cobras past. For those of us not fluent in Morse code, Binary, or tinny computer-speak the easy-to-understand colored displays will come as a godsend.

Strobe Alert (for detecting emergency vehicles at a distance), Intelli-Mute (which reduces false alarms in urban areas), and the all seeing Laser-Eye technologies all carry over into this current model from previous ones. In some areas, the 9940 can also pick up special ‘Cobra Safety Alert Transmitters’ which have been placed at certain hazardous locations nationwide.

However, like a machine that does nothing but detect Piggy Wigglies in Antarctica, the lack of sensors at railroad crossings nationwide may relegate the 9940’s ‘Safety Alert’ feature to the status of ‘Cool Sales Pitch,’ as opposed to ‘Genuine life-saver.’

As a whole, new or used, the Cobra 9940 is exactly what it purports to be: An economical, high-feature radar detector that doesn’t disappoint with its amenities, ease of use, or performance for the dollar.
