Valentine One Radar Detectors
When you see someone with a Valentine One, you know he or she is a serious driver who wants to get places efficiently and without worry. Other drivers tend to tailgate these drivers because they recognize the device and understand that it will alert the driver--and by extension those following it closely--to the hazard of police activity.
That's one reason why some owners of the Valentine One hide their devices and use the remote display screen that's an optional accessory. Ironically, the downside to this model stems from the same source as its benefits.
It's very sensitive to sound. You have to program it heavily to filter out the noises and frequencies of the road, and the filters available now really aren't good enough to do that with any predictability. It would be good if filters were improved so it could at least filter out the weaker signals, like door openers (on X and K bands) or the leaky radar detectors of other cars.
Some of the other radar detectors don't have this problem, but then again they may have filtered out so much of the noise that they fail to alert you when a real situation needs to be addressed. The Valentine One alerts you to everything, then leaves it up to you to decide how important the warning is.
So this has its good points and its bad points. You want to be spared some of the false positives with signal processing, so you aren't constantly bothered and having to make unnecessary decisions; but you don't want so much signal processing, as with some models, that a short blast of radar or one too far in the distance doesn't register.
When that happens, you can find yourself in a speed trap down the road without ever realizing it was going to happen until it's way too late. Then you wind up with a ticket when you thought you were protected by your radar detector. So you might want to consider the Valentine One for it's sensitivity and competence.
